We are a mother and daughter who both love to write. We decided to start this blog so we could spend time together doing something we both love and share it with you. We specialize in reviewing fun places to go and fun things to do, but we talk a little bit about everything.
Me – Sistas was a nice show. It is a show about the history of Black Women through songs. There is actually a plot too though. It is about these women who are packing their grandmother’s attic because she recently died. They are going through all the stuff that she had in the attic and trying to find a song to sing at her funeral. The acting was good. The singing voices were lovely. The story was interesting. I learned things that I didn’t know about music, and I heard songs that I never heard before. Sistas is an especially great show for women to see together. I went with my Mom, my sister and our friend. Most of the crowd seemed really familiar with the show and were really into the show. That made it made it even more enjoyable. We had a really good time at the show.
Mom – Like This One’s For the Girls which we reviewed previously, Sistas the Musical tells the story of women through song. Sistas specificially focuses on the history of African American women through song. There is a little bit more of cohesive story in this show than that one. It is the story of a family that comes together to clean out their recently deceased grandmother/great grandmother’s attic and through the course of that memories are shared and secrets are revealed. Anybody who has ever had a family and in particular any woman who has ever had a family can relate to it. The show is full of popular and mostly well known songs from the 1900s through the 2000s including Stop! In the Name of Love, I Will Survive, and Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) to name just a few. There are also a few songs that may not be not as familiar at least not to everyone. The singing voices of the cast were terrific. They worked well together and really seemed believable as a family. All in all, is just a really fun show which even after running for over seven years is still playing to packed audiences.
